September is Banned Book Month

Celebrate your right to read without censorship by visiting the one place that will always stand up for that right . . . your library! Have your mugshot taken with your favorite banned book or simply enter into our drawing for a banned book t-shirt - one entry per person, per day! Enter to win!

Twisted Stitches

Saturdays, September 9th and 23rd, 1:30 - 3:30 pm

Learn to knit in our free, beginner-level classes! In both classes this month we will be learning to make Ruffle Scarves. All materials are provided and registration is required.

We invite adults, aged 55+, to our new book club, meeting on the second Monday of every month at The Fountain Valley Senior Center (5745 Southmoor Dr.).

The 100 Book Challenge is back!!

One New Year resolution that it would be fun to stick to....reading!! We want to help by challenging you to read 100 books by the end of 2023. Baby/Toddler Storytime

Tuesdays and Thursdays, 9:30 am

We invite our youngest patrons to this special program geared just for babies and toddlers. We focus on songs, movement, and having fun!

LEGO Club

Saturdays, September 2nd and 16th, 10:00 am

LEGO Club is back! Explore, create, and build with us on the first and third Saturdays of the month! New themes and challenges each week! Register here to reserve your LEGO kit!

Messy Art with Molly

September 13th and 27th, 10:30

Children ages 2-5 are invited to this exciting and messy program! We focus on the process and the product as we explore paint, sand, clay, and more!

Homeschool Crew

September 20th, 11:00 am to 1:00 pm

Learn with us and meet fellow homeschool friends! Each month we have fun STEAM activities that revolve around different themes. This program meets in the Program Room on the lower level of the library. Visit the Homeschool Hub here.

 
T.A.B. Meeting (6th - 12th grade)

Tuesday, September 5th, 3:30 - 5:00pm

Join Security Public Library's Teen Advisory Board (T.A.B.)!  Enjoy free food. Earn volunteer hours. Influence teen collections and activity development.

Teen Activity Night

Tuesday, September 12th, 5:30 - 6:30 pm

Teens in grades 6th through 12th are invited to hang out at this month's teen activity - planned by the teens on our T.A.B.

Teen Movie Night

Friday, September 29th, 5:30 pm - end of movie

Grab your friends and come watch a movie at the library after hours! Snacks are on us! This free event is for teens in grades 6th - 12th only. In September we will be watching The Super Mario Bros. Movie, rated PG.

Widefield Community Parade

Saturday, September 23rd, 10:30 am - 12:30 pm

Come see your favorite SPL librarians in the Widefield Community Parade! The parade route begins in the Big R parking lot and ends at Widefield High School.

Since we are marching in the parade, the library will be opening at 1:00pm on Parade Day!

Library Card Sign-Up Month

September is Library Card Sign-Up Month! We hope that you'll share your love of the library with your friends and neighbors by inviting them to sign up for their own library cards. 

Sizzling Solar Oven Craft

September 30th, 11:30 am - 1:15 pm

In preparation for the upcoming solar eclipse, happening on October 14th, we have some fun programs and crafts planned. Make a Solar Oven and learn how to cook in it using only the energy of the sun!

Solar Clock Take-and-Make Craft

Starting on September  13th, stop by the library to pick up a craft kit for a solar clock which you can make at home.
