"Unearth A Story" 2026 Summer Reading Program
May 26th - August 1st (31st for Adults)
Our 2026 summer reading program runs May 26th through August 1st for kids and August 31st for adults! Sign up on Beanstack or stop by the library to get your reading log. There are prizes and fun activities for all ages!

Baby/Toddler
May 26th - August 1st
Even our youngest patrons can join the fun this summer! Parents and caregivers can create a profile for their little ones on Beanstack and register for our baby/toddler challenge. You'll find badges that can be earned through doing early literacy activities and earn a fun prize as well as entries into our grand prize drawing at the end of summer!
Little Bookworms
Every Tuesday and Thursday at 9:30 am, our littlest readers (ages 0-3) are invited to the library for age-appropriate story times, songs and a fun activities. This event will take place in the Program Room starting June 2nd through August 1st.
Our Summer Reading Program is brought to you through the App and website, Beanstack!* Create an account and track your reading to get prizes and entries into our end-of-summer grand prize drawings! Beanstack can be accessed here. It's also available to download through the Apple App Store or in Google Play. Adults can create a master account and from there add all the readers in the family- we have a program for everyone!
*If you would prefer not to track via tech, no problem! Come in to register and pick up your paper log at the circulation desk.

PreK - 5th Grade
Adventure Awaits at Security Public Library
May 26th - August 1st
Let's get together and have some fun at Security Public Library this summer! Earn special rewards by reading, participating in programs, and visiting the library all summer long! New programs and Storytimes each week!
Get ready to earn some reading bling! Register with Beanstack or grab a paper log from the Children's desk, then come into the library to choose your Summer Reading Brag Tag! Earn a new bead to add to your necklace for every hour of reading you complete. At 10 hours of reading, kids get to choose a book to keep and get a prize from our gumball machine! Continue reading to earn entries into our Grand Prize Drawing happening at the end of Summer Vacation!
Outdoor Storytime
Join us on the patio every Tuesday and Thursday (weather permitting) at 10:30 am for Storytime. We read the same set of books on both days, so no one misses out. Pick the day that works best for you!
Two Ways to Craft
Ready to get creative? Join us every week for fun programs and activities! We alternate between Take & Make Crafts (pick up at the library and make at home) and Park & Make Crafts (park and make at the library) every other week. Check out the schedule below.
Take & Makes are available for pick up at the Children's Desk during the designated week, while supplies last. Park & Make sessions will be held on the library patio on Wednesdays and Fridays, from 10:00 - 11:00 am, weather permitting.

Tween (5th-8th Graders)
Summer @SPL for Tweens in Grades 5th through 8th
May 26th - August 1st
Come play, compete, win, and read in Security Public Library's Tween Summer Reading Program. Set your own pace for reading or listening to books, and choose which weekly activities you'd like to participate in.
5th graders are welcome to participate in both the Tween and Children's Summer Reading Programs. 6th - 8th graders are welcome to participate in both the Tween and Teen Summer Reading Programs.
Register using our App, Beanstack, or come into the library to pick up a paper log, then get reading! You can earn up to 150 entries! When you sign up you will get to pick a keychain, for every 1 hour of reading you'll get a slip for our grand prize drawing, and at 5, 10, & 15 hours get to pick a backpack charm!
Grand Prizes
For every hour of reading, earn an entry into the drawing for one of these Grand Prizes:
- Beats Studio Earbuds
- Mini Fridge
- Bluetooth Lamp
- Camera/ Photo Printer

Movie Mondays (from 4:00 pm - the end of the film)
Movies are shown in the Program Room (lower level). Participants younger than 13 will need a signed permission slip to view PG-13 features. Snacks are provided, and candy will be sold to raise money for future teen activities.
Activity Tuesdays (drop in any time between 2:00 and 3:00 pm)
Activities are designed to be completed at the library in the Program Room. Supplies are limited.
*All tween-only events are free, and open to teens in grades 5th - 8th and their friends in the same age group. Participants do not need to be enrolled in the Summer Reading Program to attend the summer events

Register using our App, Beanstack, or come into the library to pick up a paper log, then get reading! This year you have the option to complete one hour of reading or one activity listed on your summer reading log. Each completed activity/one hour of reading earns you an entry slip for our Grand Prize! The first 10 hours/activities and first 20 hours/activities earns you a prize from the treasure chest!
